I’m sure by now you have seen a lot of buzz about the 2022 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Highest level cardholders started shopping yesterday.
What’s the big deal? It’s a sale on new fall merchandise, not leftover clearanced merchandise. When the stuff is gone, it’s gone. But there is also a chance it won’t be gone, and it will be clearanced again. That makes it all the more important that you shop this sale wisely.

I’ve seen so many bloggers and influencers already saying how good everything is. Honestly, it looked a bit like groundhog day to me when I looked at the sneak peeks. I see some of the same things or types of things you see every year. But, there are still some good things to be had and if you need to fill some holes in your closet or replace fall/winter items, it’s a good time to do it.
It’s also a fun way to see some of what will be trending in fall. I’m happy to see lug sole boots and white boots will be around. Tall boots are making a come back. Jeans and pants legs are going more toward the flare leg cut, but there are also some skinny jeans in the sale for those of you that don’t want to part with them.
There are also some sandals and “wear now” items in the sale, which is a good thing if you are like me and you aren’t interested in sweaters when it’s 100 degrees.
Navigating this sale can be overwhelming. I don’t want to overwhelm you even more so I don’t plan to make every post from now until August about this sale. It’s one sale. There will be others. I am sharing some of my picks from the 2022 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that I think are worth shopping.
One more thought on shopping the sale, or any sale: if you find yourself asking is this a good deal? ask yourself what’s its value to you? If you find that unicorn of jeans or other item that fits your body and that you will actually wear, it’s worth the purchase whether it’s on sale or not. Price and value are not the same. So, can you afford it? What’s its value?

Denim Picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Let’s start with denim. Most everyone wears jeans at some time or another and they are a great fall and winter staple. Finding a great fitting pair of jeans can be such a task (see tips for that here). Nordstrom does a great job with giving rise and inseam measurements online so it’s a great place to shop for jeans and denim. Two of my favorite brands (great for curvy figures) are sold at Nordstrom- Wit and Wisdom and NYDJ– and it’s always a bonus to find those one sale.
I don’t splurge for premium denim because most of my days are spent in dress pants and suits. A less expensive pair of jeans serves me well, but I encourage you to spend what you can afford on denim. Investing in your staples is wise and buying the best of what your wear the most is always a good idea because it will generally last longer and you won’t have to replace those staples as often. Premium denim is a good purchase during this sale if you wear jeans a lot.
Please note my picks are geared toward curvy petites, but many of the jeans can be found in regular and petite inseams. I’ve included some classic cuts and a few trendy pieces. Most aren’t premium denim, just good mid-level denim.

The Best Boots and Booties of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2022
I always buy a pair of shoes during the sale. I either buy a new pair of boots for replacements to old ones or pumps or flats that I can wear to work.

Jackets and Coats
If you are lacking a utility jacket or moto jacket, consider buying one in the sale. I’ve linked up jackets and coats that are suitable for us southerners and I’ve made notes on pieces that flatter older women. A black leather moto is a great piece, but many women say they don’t look good in black, especially as they age. Choose a faux suede jacket in a soft color instead. I’ll share my regular blazer picks when I share workwear.
