Fall’s trendiest jacket has become spring’s trendiest jacket. The shacket makes a great winter to early spring transitional piece and creates all the spring vibes in the right colors. The shacket first hit the scene in fall 2020 and has continued in popularity for spring.
What is the shacket? It is a shirt? Or a jacket? It’s both. Most are a little heavier than a shirt but lighter than most jackets. They are definitely meant to be an outer layer. It’s the perfect piece to wear when just a shirt is too light for the temps and a jacket is too heavy.

I laughed when these first hit the scene. Men have worn these forever in plaid flannel versions and solid colors for years. I took a red plaid flannel one from my grandaddy in the early to mid 90’s and made it mine. I guess I was way ahead on this trend.
Let’s take a look at a couple of styles that are spring appropriate.
The first one is a plaid version with pockets from Amazon. It comes in several colors and I’m styling it for you in pruple and in pink.
Most of the plaid shackets bring to mind 90s grunge vibes for me, so I paired the purple one with a black band tee and grey jeans. Stick with more casual footwear when creating outfits with a plaid shacket. Chelsea boots, combat boots and sneakers all work well. Keep the jewelry minimal. Ear crawlers and an ear cuff complete this look.
Here’s another look with the pink plaid shacket. I paired it with distressed wide leg jeans, a graphic tee and slip on sneakers. I kept it girly with some drusy stud earrings.

You don’t have to go with a super casual grunge look to wear a shacket. There are many available in solids that create more chic dressed up looks. I have never been a fan of wearing a shirt over a tee or shirt as I find the look sloppy on me, but I do love the structure of this Free Assembly Shirt Jacket from Wal-mart.
Pairing white jeans with a shirt jacket or shacket brings on the fresh spring vibes. You could even pair this style of shacket with white cotton ankle pants.

You can even pair a shacket with a skirt or dress. I chose a slim denim skirt and slip on sneakers for this look but cute flats would go with this also.
Tips for styling and wearing a shacket:
Since it’s slightly oversized, creating more volume on top, pair it with skinny or straight leg jeans, or slim skirts.
Wear it over more fitted tees, tops or body suits.
Pair one with joggers and sneakers or sandals for a laid back look.
Chunkier shoes like the boots mentioned above, sneakers and chunky sandals will help balance the proportions.
