Today I’m joining the Fab 40s as their guest blogger for the month.
The Fab 40’s is a group of five stylish fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month they choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger also in their forties to join in. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With six widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after 40.
Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots asked me to be the guest blogger and also chose the theme of pattern mixing. Challenge accepted! I love a good pattern mix. Pattern mixing for fall is especially fun because we get to pull on plaids.
I’ve got Christmas and winter and plaid on my mind, even though that’s just a dream for me with our temps bouncing up and down by 10-15 degrees each day. We went back up to 75-78 over the weekend. Grrr… Anyway, I can dream and play with my closet. Since I’ve got holiday outfits on my mind, I wanted to mix something with this buffalo plaid vest. I decided to go with gingham, which is very similar but a smaller version of the buffalo plaid.
I’ve also got a small obsession with vests, hiker boots and beanies. Again, wishful thinking as I won’t get to wear this combo much, but when the temps do drop, I will be ready. I had to keep it girly, so I added some statement earrings and bright red lipstick.

Let’s take a look at how the other bloggers styled their looks.
Jennie at A Pocketful Of Polka Dots
Jennie is the queen of pattern mixing! It didn’t surprise me a bit that she chose this theme. Every piece of her outfit has a pattern and it flows perfectly.
Cardigan – Ann Taylor ; Top – Ember; Pants – Soho Apparel Ltd. ; Shoes – JoeyO; Earrings – Shein
Shelbee at Shelbee On The Edge
Shelbee always has something fun going on with an outfit. She’s mixing leopard and dots but those red tights really set this off!

Stripes are always a great choice for mixing with other patterns.
Multipattern Shrug: Vero Moda; Stripe T: Old Navy; Denim: Levis; Wedge Sandals: Hype
Suzy at Suzy Turner Books and Style
I find camo a little hard to mix other patterns with, but Suzy did a fabulous job. We always say leopard is a neutral, right?
Camo trousers: Bershka; Animal print top: Bershka; Leather jacket: Massimo Dutti; Handbag: Gift from mother-in-law; Boots: Calla Shoes; Earrings: crazy old!
Daenel at Living Outside the Stacks
A windowpane or grid print is another great pattern to mix with. Just grab another print in a coordinating color and go.
If pattern mixing has intimidated you in the past, these ideas should make pattern mixing for fall so much easier.
