My nieces started back to school today and our county starts next week. For the next month or so, students and teachers will be going back to school. With all of the new responsibilities, the last thing you need or want to think about on those busy mornings is what to wear.
These 33 stylish teacher outfits will make getting dressed and ready for the day a breeze.
What should a teacher wear?
Most schools require a business casual dress code, but some may be more lenient with attire. Many schools have relaxed their dress codes over the years and allow a little more freedom in attire.
Business casual blends business attire with more relaxed attire but usually doesn’t include jeans, tshirts or shorts. A tie is not required for men in a business casual dress code. Collared shirts and slacks are the accepted business casual attire for men and pants or a skirt with blouses or dresses are acceptable for women.
Regardless of the dress code, it’s important to dress as the professional you are. You need to look put together to command your presence and take control of your classroom.
Looking put together and presentable will gain you the confidence you need and the respect you deserve in the classroom or on the job.
A teacher needs to look professional but also needs to be comfortable. The best teacher outfits include pieces that have some stretch and allow for movement and flat to low heeled shoes that are comfortable.
The grade you teach and the amount of activity you have in your day will also dictate what works best in your teacher attire.
If you aren’t a teacher, you might be going back to the office or starting a new job now that the kids are in school. You might just want to put a little more thought into your outfits and jazz up your style now that summer is coming to an end.
These teacher outfits for 2022 are also suitable for a business casual office or any job that requires business casual attire.
These cute teacher outfits were created with affordable pieces that can be mixed and matched. (Look for sales- most retailers will have at least 50% off in a sale.)
Most outfits include a third piece or layer for those temperatures that can be all over the place. Wear the third layer or remove it as needed.
These outfits include some basic staples that should be in every teacher wardrobe or business casual wardrobe:
- black pants
- navy pants
- grey pants
- olive pants
- black blazer
- camel blazer or sweater blazer
- navy blazer
- neutral cardigan
- colored cardigan
- patterned dress
These key pieces can be mixed and matched with solid or patterned tops and blouses for countless teacher outfit ideas.
Plaid top + black pants + loafers
This first outfit comes from JCrew Factory and pairs the plaid ruffle trim peasant top with the Jamie pull on pant. The top is made from breathable cotton to keep you comfortable and is a great choice if you prefer to cover your arms but don’t need a third layer. The Jamie pant features an elastic waist for strech and all day comfort.
Finish this look off with their adorable bow loafers. Accessorize with a simple headband and earrings.
Every teacher (or office worker who commutes) needs a grown up back pack. This leather backpack is a splurge but it’s so classy with 18k gold hardware. (Less expensive options are linked in the widget.)
Solid Top + black pants + camel cardigan + mule loafers
Black and camel are a great color combination. Pair this combo with a solid burgundy or maroon top for a fall outfit.
Dress + blazer + boots or flats
A dress makes getting dressed and out the door so easy. A sweater blazer is a great choice for looking polished in a casual way.
The Chelsea boots are by Dr. Scholl’s, a brand that provides all day comfort. If they heel is too much, try this pair. If open toe shoes are allowed, pair a low heel sandal with just the dress for late summer and early fall.
Camel blazer + print top + olive pants + flats
A linen blazer is great for the summer. Once fall arrives switch it out for the sweater blazer or wool school boy blazer. Olive pants are a great “go with everything” neutral to have in a teacher wardrobe.
Tie Waist Top + ankle Pants + sandals
A simple tie waist top and ankle pants in monochromatic fall hues makes a stylish teacher outfit. Sandals, pumps or flats work with this look.
A sophisticated tote is another must have for work. Carry all your essentials in style. This one is suede with a block of crocodile print. Perfect color for now and perfect texture for fall.
Flutter top + wide leg crop pants + leopard flats
For those days that are warmer or call for more casual looks, pair a ruffled top with wide leg crop pants. Add some interest with leopard flats.
Puff sleeve top + paperbag waist pants + flats
Getting dressed doesn’t have to be complicated. A pair of colored pants with an elevated basic top, like this black puff sleeve top, make a great outfit.
Blouse + midi skirt + ankle boots
A pretty blouse and midi skirt make cute teacher outfits. The midi skirt is long enough to allow you to bend or get in the floor with modesty if necessary. This one is petite friendly. (I’m 5’2)
Button up shirt + khaki pants + blazer + loafers
Dress smart for those parent teacher meetings or staff meetings with a button up and blazer. If a blazer is not your style, you will still look polished without it or with a cardigan in its place.
Old Navy Pixie pants have lots of stretch for comfort and movement. Just don’t wear them too tight. Size up if necessary.
Plaid blazer + solid blouse + navy pants + flats
Your basics become stunning work outfits with the addition of a plaid blazer. Repeat this formula with all of your basic bottoms- black, navy, grey and olive.
Colorful cardigan + neutral print top + grey pants + colorful flats
Work wear and school teacher outfits don’t have to be boring. Add a pop of color to those neutrals with a cardigan and flats.
Navy blazer + solid top + plaid pants +mule loafers
Fall outfits would not be fall outfits without some plaid. Mix it up with plaid pants.
Camel blazer + neutral print top + khaki pants
The blazer adds interest but if you don’t need it, this cute teacher outfit works on its own. Create harmony and flow in your outfits by repeating and bookending a color. This outfit starts and ends with black in the top and shoes.

This is much like the midi skirt outfit pictured above, but this waffle knit top will go from work to weekend. The skirt dresses it up for work but it’s perfect with jeans on the weekend.

Another cute teacher outfit with preppy vibes. Top a fun dress with a cardigan and add loafers. (Apparently the mauve cardigan has sold out at Old Navy but hopefully it will get restocked. I tried to find a similar one. The cream color one will work too.)
