Three Dresses to Wear To A Garden Wedding

We’ve been exploring what to wear to all the spring/ summer events. Last week we explored what to wear to a bridal shower. This week we will take a look at what to wear to a garden wedding. I’ve got three dresses to wear to a garden wedding as a guest.

Outdoor garden weddings have become quite popular.

Honestly, there’s no better way to witness a romantic sunset wedding than to be one with nature, is there? Is it the lovely blooms, beams of sunlight, color palettes, or the endless styling opportunities it offers that make a garden wedding so special?

Whether it’s set in a fancy botanical garden, an intimate backyard, or by the awe-inspiring mountainside, dressing up for a garden wedding can be just as creative, glamorous, and stylish as an indoor wedding.

What is the dress code for a garden wedding?

A garden wedding is one of the most enjoyable wedding dress codes to plan for. The dress code is still dressy but more laid back than formal indoor weddings.

Garden weddings are known for their soft, feminine, and romantic vibes. Before settling on what to wear to a garden wedding, keep in mind:

Is the garden under full sun or have a shade? What is the temperature like? Is the wedding more formal and coming up in a public outdoor garden? Or is it less formal, and the venue is just a private residence or a backyard garden?

Consider the location, weather, and time.

Before planning your outfit for a garden wedding, do your homework. Is it going to be cold? Bring a stylish cover-up or a light jacket. Will it take place in a grassy area? Instead of stilettos, opt for stylish sandals, wedges, or block heels—you wouldn’t want your expensive heels to sink in muck, would you? Consider putting boots underneath your maxi dresses for occasions on steep terrain.

Dress to impress—but stick to the dress code.

While garden weddings are generally more relaxed, always keep the dress code in mind. Long gowns are ideal for formal occasions, while cocktail dresses are safe for semi-formal occasions. Light and breezy Sunday dresses are ideal for casual, laid-back occasions. Slacks, skirts, jumpsuits, and pantsuits are also excellent options—just keep in mind that wearing denim jeans to a wedding is a no-no.

Have fun playing with colors, textures, and patterns!

Unless the invitation states that you follow a specific color palette, garden weddings are the perfect venue to experiment with earthy tones, springtime hues, dreamy tulles, romantic ruffles, and nature-inspired prints.

But while any hue that compliments the wedding theme is acceptable, white should be avoided at all costs. The color is reserved for the bride unless she specifically wishes that you arrive in white.

Also avoid wearing the same color as the wedding party if you can find out the wedding colors ahead of time.

That said, here are three dresses to wear to a garden wedding so you won’t have any problem looking stylish and appropriate!
