The Books I Read in April 2022

Where did April go? And what did I read? I’m currently reading a book and listening here and there to an audiobook but it stills seems like a long time has passed since I was really into reading. Thank goodness for Goodreads or I might not remember what I read or when I read it.

Here are the books I read/listened to in April- two thrillers and two romance/contemporary fiction.

The Lilac Bouquet by Carolyn Brown

Pin

I’ve read a couple of other Carolyn Brown books. They all tend to have serious issues that need to be addressed by the characters but yet they are light and easy reads at the same time. Sometimes these books are a little too “small town” but entertaining nonetheless.

In this story Emmy Jo is determined to have the wedding of her dreams and takes a job as an aide to Seth Thomas, the town recluse, to help finance the wedding. Thomas, Emmy Jo’s grandmother and her fiance’s grandfather all have a long standing feud with each other that threatens to keep the marriage from happening.  Family secrets unravel as she gets Thomas to open up about his past. There’s a happy ending with lots of mystery. Read and listened on Kindle Unlimited 4 stars

The Sometimes Sisters by Carolyn Brown

Three sisters inherit their grandmother’s lake resort and are expected to keep it running. The sisters don’t get along well and are linked only by their father and paternal grandmother. Each one arrives to take on their role at the resort as per their grandmother’s wishes and find a way to work together and work through some much needed healing and resolutions to inner conflicts in themselves. They each find a little romance too. Also a cute light read. Listened via Scribd 4 stars

You Betrayed Me by Lisa Jackson Cahills #3

Pin

This book focuses on James Cahill, the son and heir of a large part of the Cahill fortune. The money brings him all the women he wants, as well as more trouble than he can buy his way out of. He wakes up in a hospital battered and bruise with no memory and his girlfriend is missing.

Jackson is skilled at writing a twisty thriller and keeps you guessing until the very end. I gave this one 3 stars because it dragged in a few places and I just wanted to “get it over with” but I was invested enough to stick it out to find out who did what.

The Night She Disappeared: A Novel Lisa Jewell

I think I started this in March. I started listening but could not keep up with the back and to introduction of the characters and it made no sense in the beginning how they tied together.

I switched to reading in print on Scribd so I could put the story together more easily (sometimes it works that way for me vs listening to an audio version.) Once I got into it, I was sucked in and wanted to know what happened to Tallulah and Zach as much has her mom wanted to know. They went out for an evening but never returned, even though they have an infant child together. 15 months later someone begins leaving notes and clues at the college where Tallulah and some of her friends attended. 3 stars
