Get Ready for Fall: Exclusive Tips from Fashion Bloggers Over 40

Fall is coming! One area you may want to get ready for fall is your closet and wardrobe. I’ve reached out to eight stylish ladies who are some of my favorite over 40 and over 50 fashion bloggers and asked them to share their must haves and best tips for fall fashion and transitioning to fall with you.

These tips are useful to you regardless of age. They just happen to come from the fashion experts who have been dressing themselves through a few more years of trends, style, body and life changes. I’m not big on classifying style or fashion dos and don’ts by age. It’s more about knowing how to dress your body shape and for your lifestyle. Keep reading for the best advice on how to get ready for fall.

Fall Style Tips from Over 40 Fashion BloggersPin

The first tip comes from Jill at Doused In Pink. Jill’s blog is a fashion-focused lifestyle blog where you’ll find posts about her personal style, her two cents on clean, non-toxic beauty, articles on living a healthy lifestyle, DIYs, and decorating ideas.

Jill says:

“My fall transition tip: Layering is the easiest way to extend your summer pieces. And, when you add a jacket, blazer or cardigan, it makes a statement. Mix them with darker hues and swap out your sandals for booties.

Alison from Get Your Pretty On shares the following on how to get your closet ready for fall:

“Fall is a great time to transition your closet but don’t be so quick to pack away your tank tops or your crop pants. Tank tops are excellent layering pieces and work beautifully under a cardigan on those cooler days. Also, your crop jeans will fall just right when paired with ankle and mid-calf length boots for a more polished look.”

Alison is the founder and CEO of Get Your Pretty On and Outfit Formulas. More than 50,000 members utilize her Outfit Formulas to curate their closets into mix and match pieces they love to wear season after season. Alison is also releasing a book next month! I’ve got my hands on a special copy of The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas and you need to go ahead and preorder now. It’s filled with excellent advice and formulas for endless outfits.

Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style says:

“As someone who considers herself a fashion rebel, I like to think about how we can wear many of our items no matter what season. Therefore, the three of us on my blog all wore white jean jackets for fall last year. I think it’s a nice way to lighten up any outfit since many of the fall colors are darker and more muted.”

Jo-Lynne from Jo-Lynne Shane shares the following advice:

My fall fashion essential is a pair of Chelsea boots. Experiment with new denim styles for fall. Try adding some crop flares or relaxed straight leg jeans to your rotation, and if you love your skinnies, try styling them in a modern way with Chelsea boots or a shorter cardigan.

Jessica of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish writes “about trends, how to dress over 50,  and host a Turning Heads Tuesday Linkup all about lifestyle, fashion, and beauty. “Jessica believes that fashion should show off one’s personality, as she doesn’t believe in many of the silly “rules” imposed on dressing over 40, over 50+.  It is important to have fun with fashion and enjoy wearing what is in your closet!

Jessica tells us an essential fall item:

One essential Fall item is the Moto jacket. Not only does it keep you warm on those chilly days, but it adds a bit of edge and interest as a third piece to the Fall wardrobe. Not only will you look put together, it adds that extra layer that can be worn many different ways throughout different seasons. Pair it with denim and a light sweater, along with some chunky boots. Try wearing it over a midi or maxi dress to add structure to a look. You will be reaching for it more often than not. If you have a paler skin tone, go for a warm color other than traditional black- tones such as burgundy, browns, cognac, chestnut are all wonderful.”

Andy from Pearls and Pantsuits shares this advice on transitioning to fall:

“My favorite thing to do for fall is to add a jacket or cardigan in a fall-like tone to an otherwise summery outfit as I did in the photo. It’s still so hot here during the early fall months, so layering like this makes sense for us!”

Transitioning to fall can be tricky for us southerners- it’s still too hot, but Andy shares more tips on her blog. You can also find her on Instagram and Facebook. Andy believes “women can still live meaningful, relevant lives full of vibrancy, abundance and JOY during their empty-nest midlife years.”

Kristen from The Scarlet Lily is another southerner who shares my struggle with dressing for fall when it’s still hot, and she shares my favorite way to add some fall to your looks when it’s still hot- color!
