I’m finally getting this week’s edition of Friday Favorites up. I should have scheduled it last night but I was celebrating my birthday. I should have done it this morning but the flower beds needed some attention while it was cool, er, well, before it hit 90. Then I just couldn’t get in the mood to blog. So I grabbed a book and read a little and took a nap. Sometimes that’s the best way to spend a day off- a little work and a little rest.
I turned 47 yesterday and I’m not the least bit bummed about it. I’m sharing my favorite things about this birthday and birthdays in general.
I’m better at 47 than I was at 46. Thanks to jumping on the Faster Way to Fat Loss program back in May, I’m down a pants size. I haven’t gotten back on the scales this month or taken any measurements yet, but many of my pants are too big now and others get looser by the day. My last major weight loss was the year I turned 40 (I lost 15 pounds by switching to a Whole30 and whole foods lifestyle), and although I weighed less at 40 than I do now, I am much stronger and have more muscle than I did then. I have no qualms or fears about aging, as long as it comes along slowly and gracefully. There is not really any part of my younger life I would go back to. I’m just an all around better person now. I’m stronger, more confident and closer to God. Why would I want to stumble back through my 20s and 30s? (Ask me if I still feel this way in 3 years when 50 is knocking, ha!)
Texts and wishes from those that I haven’t heard from in a long time! It’s always a surprise when you get unexpected well wishes.
A coworker sent me this in an email. It’s too funny!
I am missing seeing my family but since we went to a wedding (in masks) last weekend and are now waiting on a friend who was there to get COVID test results this week, I’m putting off getting together with my family because I don’t want to expose my family to any risk. An evening at home is always good with me.
Cards with cash- Not to sound greedy, but a little extra money to spend on something of my choosing is always fun! and getting cash in the mail is always better than sending it out in bills. I’m glad they postponed the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year- I have a better idea of how much extra money I have to spend since it falls after my birthday.
Cupcakes and ice cream– We don’t eat desserts or treats frequently so birthdays are always celebrated with treats. Cake and ice cream are always birthday favorites. My hubby made gluten free cupcakes. I provided him with a recipe and instructions from the couch while he did all the work. They fell after he took them out of the oven and he was a little disappointed but it was likely my fault because I had him sub maple syrup for the sugar in the recipe we used and that messed with the moisture content a bit. We also used a gluten free flour blend that I have not used before. They still tasted amazing. He also put pizza in the oven and we had a stay at home pizza/movie night.
The loot- The hubby likes to buy me gifts rather than just money and I have been wanting kettlebells and bands to add to my workout equipment so he got those things for me. I’ve been using his blender bottle for protein shakes and told him I wanted my own. Now I have two. The sweatshirt is a sasquatch hoodie. I passed up a Bigfoot Expedition hoodie a couple of years ago when we visited the museum and we have been looking for another one. My hubby found this one online. The art is by an artist who also did some of the Star Wars character art and it’s a rendering from The Legend of Boggy Creek. He is both a Star Wars fan and a Bigfoot fan. I find some of the Bigfoot stuff amusing so I’ll happily wear the sweatshirt.
What are your birthday favorites? Do you celebrate birthdays or let them pass by?
Have a great weekend!
Linking up with Friday Favorites.
