Style and Beauty Inside and Out

Hello friends and readers. If you are new here, welcome. While this blog’s focus is primarily on stylish outfits for work and the office and casual outfits, today I’d like to focus on style and beauty inside and out. We hear the expression “beautiful inside and out” a lot. But what does that mean?

Merriam Webster defines style as “a distinctive manner of expression (as in writing or speech); or the state of being popular (fashion); or a particular manner or technique by which something is done, created, or performed. In fashion, style is how you wear your clothes. If you wear them well and have a good appearance, you are thought to have “style” or be stylish. Often it involves keeping up to date on fashion trends. No one wants to be “out of style.”

Beauty- noun-a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. (Oxford dictionary)

Notice that definition of beauty says “a combination of qualities”? Beauty is way more than physical attractiveness. While it mean lots of different things to different people, to me it’s the combination of inside and out. Having style also means more than wearing clothing well. It means having some class and behaving well.

Have you ever seen a someone with really great physical qualities dressed to the nines in the finest clothing, but been totally put off by them? Likely their personality and behaviors ruined all that physical beauty.

Ever see someone who you think “he/she would be cute, look better, etc if…” Come on, we all have a little judgmental side to us and we size up others. Sometimes that judgment has no ill intent. Sometimes we see someone that could be way more than what they are projecting if they had confidence. That’s not being self-centered. That’s wanting someone else to be better.

“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.” ~Sophia Loren

What I’m getting at here, is that what we think and how we feel on the inside affects how we look on the outside. And sometimes how we look on the outside can affect how we feel inside. Gain twenty pounds or more because you let your family become your sole focus and neglected yourself? If you’re honest, those twenty plus pounds now likely affect your confidence. Knowing how to dress that different body can help with regaining confidence just the same as losing the weight.

How we feel inside- physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually can affect what someone sees on the outside. How we feel on the inside can also affect how we behave if we don’t keep negative feelings and emotions in check. Hurt people hurt people. Yeah, read that again- adjective/noun/ verb noun. We are seeing a lot of that in the world today. Sometimes we lash out because we are hurting, either physically or emotionally.

It all goes hand and hand. To attain outer beauty, you need to work on inner beauty and vice versa. From the foods we put into our bodies to the thoughts we put into our minds, we get results that reflect in our outward appearance. Going forward I will be presenting you with a new series that focuses on things that affect our style and beauty inside and out.
