By now you have begun to be inundated with Nordstrom Anniversary Sale posts. I get it- It’s a big deal to some people.
You might not want to spend all your pennies there. Right in the middle of early access (July 12-18) and just before public access (July 19), there’s Amazon Prime Day! Amazon Prime Day will be July 15 and 16, 2019.
So exactly how do you shop these two big sales? Read on to find out.

First, let’s talk about this dress. This dress is one of my favorite Amazon Prime purchases. I shared it in a previous try on. Now I’m sharing how I wore it to a graduation party at the end of the school year.

This fun pattern doesn’t need much accessorizing but I added a necklace and some fun rattan earrings, also Amazon prime finds. The purse was the perfect coordinating addition, and I dressed this look up a bit with block heel sandals. This dress could easily be dressed down with sneakers or flat sandals.
This dress comes in a ton of patterns and some solids.

So what is Amazon Prime Day? And what should you do to be prepared?
Amazon will roll out tons of discounts throughout the day, on July 15 and 16, much like they do on Black Friday, exclusive to Prime members. Some will only last for a certain period of time, like a couple of hours.
First make sure you are an Amazon Prime member. You can try Prime for a 30- day free trial. If it’s not for you, just cancel at the end of your 30 day period. But I bet when you see how easy it is to get everything under the sun at your front door in two days with FREE SHIPPING, you will be addicted and keep it. Prime members also get free access to around 1,000 Kindle book selections, instant streaming of select movies and music, access to Prime Wardrobe (a try before you buy service) and much more.
Download the Amazon app and turn on notifications so you can get notified when the deals begin. Make sure you have personalized notifications enabled so you can get sneak peeks of some of the deals. Then hit “watch this deal” and be notified when it starts. One note about the app: if you want to support me or a favorite blogger, and you are shopping from a link recommended, please go to Amazon.com to purchase the item. I won’t get credit for the purchase from the app. Thanks for understanding. It also helps me see what interests you so I can bring you more good stuff.
You can also search on Prime Day to see if the item you want has a “Prime Day Deal” badge. The fun of it is the surprise of what’s on sale. You can bet I’ll be scrolling through my saved lists to see if things are on sale.
If you are a Nordstrom cardholder, then you can start shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary sale on July 12. Go get a card here! It’s quick and easy and you can start using it right away. It will give you a head start on the sale. I only use mine a few times a year, but I get bonus points when I do, and every little bit adds up. It’s best to shop early so you don’t miss out if you truly want/need an item from the sale.
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is their release of new fall merchandise at a discounted price. Not discounted after it’s been out for a season, but discounted right from the start. I’ve shopped it for about three years now and it’s so easy to get caught up in the hype. I have pieces that were worth it and I have pieces from each sale that were regrets. I have the fewest regrets from last year as I’ve learned a little more year after year about this sale, so here are my tips on how to shop this sale.
1- Make a list. What do you really need for fall? Shop for those items.
2- This sale is best for premium denim, designer handbags and the like if that’s your thing. The discounts are better for those items. Trendy items from Nordstrom’s lines like BP, Caslon, etc. are not as big a discount. You will see more sweaters, cardigans, etc just like the ones in the sale when fall really gets here, so don’t get caught up in FOMO! Fear of missing out. You won’t miss out on a thing. There will always be more shoes, boots, and sweaters to buy and there will always be more sales. I actually see some of the items from the cheaper lines go on deeper discount later in the season if they don’t sell completely out or if Nordstrom brings them back into their fall line up. So just chill and shop wisely. I also see similar items at Old Navy and JCrew Factory that are the same quality and price come fall. SO, focus on the big ticket items if that’s your thing. (If you have followed my blog long enough, you know it’s not my thing. I do invest in NYDJ jeans because they fit me well, but that’s as far as I go with premium denim because I don’t wear jeans enough to justify the price. They are not allowed at my office. Designer handbags don’t do much for me either. I’ve gotten the same use and results from $35 bags as $100 bags, so I really have to wonder, how much more do you have to spend on a bag for it to last any longer?)
3- I sound like I’m talking you out of the sale. Not at all. Just cautioning you to shop wisely. My best investments last year wear underwear and bras! Ha! How’s that for responsible? But you have to have them and they will get lots of wear, so why not buy good ones on sale? Bras and underwear will definitely be on my list for this year. I also like Kendra Scott and Gorgjana jewelry and there are usually some exclusive pieces in the sale so I like to splurge there. I also like to shop the beauty deals! It’s a great time to try out new products. These are the things I shop for because I don’t need sweaters and boots until November and the next best thing is out by then.
