We have all had those days. Those days when you feel like you haven’t gotten anything accomplished or done, in spite of being busy all day.
Frustrating, isn’t it?
Read on for five effective ways to be more productive at work. These can apply to home chores and tasks as well.

1 Dress up and show up! You don’t usually see this on all the lists of ways to be more productive, but I believe in it. Get dressed in something that makes you feel confident and powerful. You will feel so much more productive and ready to tackle the day when you feel good about your outfit. If you are not fretting with your outfit, you are free to focus on the tasks at hand. If I don’t feel so great about what I’m wearing when I leave for work, I’m not as mentally prepared. When I say, show up, I mean physically and mentally. Show up for the task at hand prepared in every way possible.
This outfit is composed of all older pieces from my closet, but I feel good in these pieces. Putting them together was a new combination for me. This outfit has spring vibes and plenty of professionalism and positive vibes for a productive day.
2- Stop checking your email. Set aside a designated time daily to check and respond to email and turn off notifications. Responding to each email every time one comes in will just distract you from other tasks. I could spend all day doing nothing but answering calls and emails some days, and at the end of the day, I’m exhausted and nothing was really accomplished. I decided one day earlier this year that my job sets me up for failure in this area. It’s hard to stay focused because of all the emails, texts and calls some days. I’ve decided that if it’s really important, they can call and they will leave a voicemail. I will no longer waste my time answering every interruption as it occurs.
3- Stop multitasking. You are not doing two things at once. You are switching rapidly from one thing to another. And this produces less work and less quality work in the end. Sure, you can fold laundry and watch TV or listen to an audiobook at the same time, but that’s different. Checking email while talking on the phone or reviewing reports is a bad idea. You aren’t giving either your full attention.
4- Do the most important things first. It’s easy to get caught up checking email or marking off little insignificant things from the to do list because they are easy to do, but the most important things should be taken care of first. Especially if it’s a difficult task. Don’t procrastinate, just get it done. If first thing is not your best time, do it when you know you are at your peak. Just make sure the most important things get done every day.
5- Take breaks. You are actually more productive if you take a few short breaks than if you keep powering through for hours on end. So take a walk, get some water, stretch. Get yourself refreshed and you will accomplish so much more than if you let yourself grow weary.
What are your tips for ways to be more productive? I hope your day starts off on a positive note and you have very productive week!
