Today is another edition of Style My Home. I’ve pulled a photo for some living room inspiration. I love this clean modern look with fun touches.
I should note I know nothing of interior design or home decor. (Maybe I should read up on it. I’ll add that to the list!) I only know what I like when I see it. I also know that what I “like to look at” does not translate to what I really like something to “look like”. We sometimes do that with fashion too. We admire looks on others that we don’t like on ourselves. So while I really need a new couch and thought we would have one by now (waiting thanks to the shutdown and furlough status), this look would not work in my home unless we did a whole redesign and repainted the entire main area of the home. For me, this room is just fun to look at. The could itself would work, but the other modern elements like the clear glass would not.
By the way, Better Homes and Gardens told me my style was polished casual, a mixture of styles. I will agree with their assessment that I like to mix and match and I like neutrals. I’d say our current style is more traditional to contemporary with a little vintage mixed in. The guide on my style they provided showcases a home in Savannah. That’s about 70 miles away, so I wonder how much our geographical area influences our decor style?
Enough of my ponderings, let’s recreate this room.
First, we will need a couch with a chaise end.
Add some fun pillows to that couch. You’ll need a leopard pillow for the clear chair.
Add the other elements and furnishings:
Let’s style that coffee table:
Don’t forget the area rug:
I hope this gives you some decorating inspiration, or at least that’s it’s fun to look at. What’s your decorating style? Do you have any good home decor books to recommend? Let me know below in the comments.
