A high end Halloween look is easily attainable on a budget. We do a huge Halloween production at our house each year for the neighborhood trick or treaters. It involves lots of props and role players. There is usually a theme each year- zombies, clowns/carnival, etc. Unfortunately, there is often little money left for costumes. Keep reading to find out how I come up with costumes without breaking the bank.
Sometimes I repeat costumes or pieces from the past, and sometimes I just like to do my own thing. A few years ago we did a spin of Resurrection Cemetery. I didn’t want to be a zombie again so I decided to be a death angel. I pulled this together with little investment.
To create a posh Halloween look on a budget, first shop your closet. I have used my own jeans, black tee shirts, dresses and skirts before. In this look, I’m using sandals from my closet.
Second, shop the thrift stores. This velvet gown was a thrift store find. We’ve also used men’s suits from the thrift stores before in our costumes.
Third, shop wisely for your accessories and add ons. Just a few pieces go a long way. Wings, gloves, and a wig made nice additions to my closet and thrift store finds. Most Halloween retailers offer coupons so make sure you take advantage of those.
Lastly, and probably most importantly, add makeup. I don’t care for masks and it’s still pretty warm here at Halloween sometimes so masks can be uncomfortable, but I love doing Halloween makeup. My hubby usually helps with this too. You don’t need to go overboard with makeup either. Shop your own makeup drawer first for black eyeliner, false eyelashes, and smoky eye shadows. Some black and white cream makeup can go a long way too.
There is no need to break the bank for a Halloween costume that looks like you spent tons of money on a pre made kit. Put together your own with these four easy ideas.
