How do you decide what to wear? Do you keep a running list of “outfits” at least in your head, or do you go into the closet each day and just see what works?

I try to shop now with a rule of three- a piece has to work with other items in my closet to create at least three outfits or have three ways to wear it. This means I’ve at least thought ahead about individual pieces. And sometimes I sit down and create mini capsules with 10-20 pieces so when life gets really busy, I can just look at that list, pull the pieces and go. This outfit was on one of those capsule lists I created last year, but I never got around to wearing it. Sometimes I don’t really need that list, but it’s always good to have a back up when deciding what to wear.
Putting together these lists or capsules can also spark creativity and a new love for your clothing. The next time you are bored with your closet, or think you don’t have anything to wear, try it. I had so much fun doing a 30×30 capsule challenge and learned so many things. There are lots of guides out there too. Start small with a 10×10 challenge. It requires some forethought on weather, activities and such, but picking just a few pieces of clothing and making as many outfits as possible can be so much fun.
Do you have a system for deciding what to wear?
