Fall colors for clothing/ 9 to 5 Style: Burnt Orange

When you think of fall colors for clothing, colors like rust, red and burnt orange may come to mind. Burnt orange is a medium-deep orange color with a dark, reddish hue. It can make quite a statement for fall fashion but it may also be a little intimidating to wear, as well as it’s darker cousin rust.

The Easy Way to Wear Fall Colors Like Rust

For starters, the easiest way to wear a color you are uncertain of is to put in on the bottom. This pair of rust pants is one of my favorite fall pieces. Next, pair it with some neutrals. Rust pairs easily with earthy neutrals like browns and blacks.

Those neutrals are more interesting when they come in the form of leopard print. Neutrals can also help keep fall outfits office and work wear appropriate.

Pumps would certainly work with this outfit. I’d choose black, brown or cognac pumps to compliment this look. Instead of pumps, I went with loafers for a comfortable no nonsense but preppy look. I’ve had these loafers for years and while I never wore them much in the past. I’m glad they have survived closet purges because loafers are pretty trendy these days.

How to Wear Burnt Orange

Burnt orange pairs well with a variety of colors. I recently wore this cropped blazer to work with grey and black, playing it safe for the office with neutrals. I added a snakeskin print belt for interest.

I’ve had this blazer for over 8 years now. It’s the perfect piece for using fall colors for clothing. I’ve associated the color with rust before but it really is more orange. Burnt orange pairs nicely with blues and with teals if you are looking for more ways to wear it beyond neutrals.
